Show and Tell Tips from an Early Childhood Educator

*Be sure to bring in an item that is school and age level appropriate. What is appropriate for a kindergartner to bring in may be different than a 4th or 5th grader.

*Make sure that your child is able to carry their show and tell item independently. This will make transporting to and from school much easier.

*Children can be rough on things when transporting them. Do not send any items that are irreplaceable or expensive to school show and tell. If there is an item that is a family heirloom or that costs a large amount of money you can always snap a photo of it and bring it in instead.

*Show and tell isn’t meant to cost you any money. Just look around your house and find an item from the list that you have and send it in. You will get your item back after your child shares it.

*Choose your child’s item with them and then have them practice sharing it at home first so they know what they want to say about their item. Some great things to share would be:

      • Why they like their item
      • What makes their item special
      • Where they got their item
      • How long they’ve had their item
      • Who got their item for them

Letter V Show and Tell Ideas

Show and tell is a great way for children to learn letters, practice letter recognition and sounds, and learn about beginning sounds. They love sharing their items and it is a great way to practice public speaking skills.

If there is an item you are unsure about sending to school with your child for show and tell be sure to double check with their teacher. They usually have guidelines and are happy to help figure out the logistics of items.

Food items make great show and tell items. Often times you can bring enough and share with the class if you talk with the teacher ahead of time to make sure it follows school policies and there are no allergies in the classroom.

*Photos also work great for show and tell. If an item is too big, too expensive, or difficult to bring into school you can take a photo and bring it in instead.

Photos of people that start with the letter V work great too. Some names that start with V include Victor, Victoria, Vicky, Verna, Velma, Violet, Vivian, Vincenzo, Valentine, and more.
