This hot air balloon craft for kids includes a free hot air balloon template for kids ages 2 and up. Scroll down for directions and a free PDF that includes both a heart shaped hot air balloon template as well as a traditional hot air balloon template.

The heart-shaped hot air balloon template makes the perfect Valentine’s day craft for kids. It includes three cute balloon Valentine’s Day sayings that can be glued onto the finished project as well.

The traditional hot air balloon template is great on its own but can also be made into an Oh the Places You’ll Go project for kids. It includes a Dr. Seuss writing prompt and is perfect for talking about what kids want to be when they grow up.

Hot Air Ballon Craft for Kids Tips for Success

*For this project, you will need a 9×12 inch piece of construction paper, your air balloon template of choice, crayons/markers, scissors, and a glue stick. You may also want to use the writing prompts included on the PDF below.

*You may use the sayings on the Valentine’s day project or keep them off. Same thing with the included “what do you want to be when you grow up” writing prompt.

Oh The Places You'll Go Craft

*This is the perfect hot air balloon craft for preschool and kindergarten students. It works great in a classroom or for a homeschooled family as it can be paired with the book “Oh the Places You’ll Go” by Dr. Seuss. Children can dictate the answer for the writing prompt, spell it out independently, or even write their own sentences to go with the project.

*When cutting out the hot air balloon you may need to leave a small amount of white space around both of the strings on the bottom. This will help so it doesn’t fall apart. See the photos to see what this looks like. You may also choose to cut out the air balloon and the basket separately and use yarn for the strings to give it a more authentic air balloon feel.
