Halloween Handprint Craft Tips and Advice
*When making these crafts with especially young infants you may have a difficult time getting them to open their hand up all the way when stamping it down on the paper. Here are a few tips to make it easier or to ensure you get the perfect handprint for these crafts:
- Paint your child’s hand and hold it open. Put a clear plastic binder sleeve on top of the paper you want the handprint craft to go on. Stamp your child’s hand down on this. Then quickly pull the binder sleeve out so their hand stays on the paper how you want it.
- Trace your child’s handprint with a pencil and cut out the handprint instead of using paint.
- Try multiple times until you get the handprints stamped down the way that you want.
*When making these crafts with older children you can have them paint their own hand or you can help them. Make sure to instruct them to try to get paint on only one hand so they can still turn on the sink and touch things with the other hand without making a big mess.
*Let your craft dry completely before adding the details and drawing on any embellishments. This will make things a lot less messy.

Witch Handprint Craft
- Paint your child’s hand with purple paint.
- Push your child’s hand down onto a corresponding colored piece of paper. Orange paper looks great with a purple handprint.
- Cut out 7-8 small and very thin 1-2″ long paper strips from green construction paper. Glue three to four to each side of the top of the handprint to make the witches hair.
- Cut out a black triangle about the side of the top of your child’s hand. Glue it to the top of their hand right on the top of the green hair to make the witches hat.
- Cut out one more super thin green paper strip and glue it to the middle of the hat to make the brim.
- Add two googly eyes to the palm and draw on a smile underneath to complete the witches face.
- Add on a cute saying like “Have a Spooktacular Halloween.”
Mummy Handprint Craft
- Paint your child’s hand with white paint.
- Stamp your child’s hand down onto a piece of black (or any other dark Halloween colored) paper.
- Using a roll of toilet paper break off a square or two. Cut roughly 1/2″ wide strips from the toilet paper pieces.
- Cut the pieces so they are about the length of your child’s handprint.
- Glue the toilet paper strips on top of the handprint. Glue one or two at diagonals and one or two straight across. Try to keep the shape of the handprint so it is visible.
- Glue or add two googly eyes on top of the toilet paper where the middle of the palm is.
- Add on a cute saying like “I love my Grand-mummy,” or “I Love you Mummy.”
