How Can I Teach my Children About the Rainbow?

Children learn best through hands-on experiences, play, and reading books. Find and read tons of different children’s books on rainbows. Check out Amazon, local book stores, and your local libraries for some great ones.

Also, as rare as they are, you can experience rainbows in real life after storms. You can also learn about light and colors and make your own rainbows using a garden hose, prism, CD, etc…

Make an anchor chart, use coloring sheets like the ones above, and use hands-on colored items and Play-Doh to talk about the order of the rainbow. We love doing rainbow sorts and search and finds. Draw a giant rainbow on a piece of paper and have kids find small toys of each color to fit in the different sections. Sort things like candies, pom poms, counter toys, and more. There are so many fun ways to teach and learn about rainbows. Try some of the ones listed above!
