Paper Plate Valentines Day Heart Fish Craft Tips

*For this craft you will need to use a lot of construction paper hearts. If working with younger children you may need to prep and cut out these hearts ahead of time for them.

*To cut out small paper hearts quickly stack multiple pieces of paper on top of each other. Fold the paper in half and cut out as many small hearts as you can from the middle fold. Repeat this on both sides of the paper you have left.

*You will need to paint your project and let it dry before adding on the details and cutting out the tail and the mouth.

*You can use any colors desired to paint the plate. We found complimentary colors that were Valentine’s themed colors to work best. We used light purple, red, and pink. You can also do a solid color if it is easier.

*For the paper hearts we found it looks best to use red, pink, and purple. Other colors that would look good would be light blue, white, and more.

*This heart fish craft would also make a great rainbow fish themed craft. Just cut out rainbow colored scales and add in a tin-foil heart once completed. Finish off the craft by reading the book and comparing your rainbow fish craft to the book.

4. Zig zag fold a few pieces of colored paper on top of each other. Cut out hearts from each fold. You will need 12-20 hearts depending on how large you cut them.

5. Starting in the middle of the plate face your hearts sideways and glue them down until you reach the outside edge.

6. Glue on a white circle for the eye to the right side of the plate and color in the inside of the eye to complete your fish craft.

7. If desired add on a cute Valentines day pun saying like “I’m hooked on you,” “I’ve caught a good one,” or “You’re the best fish in the sea!”
