This rock painting mindfulness craft for kids includes directions on how to paint rocks with positive affirmations and spread joy to others by placing them around parks and neighborhoods. It is a great mindful craft for preschoolers, kindergartners, grade school age, and more.

For this mindfulness craft, you will need to start out by going for a nature walk and picking out rocks to paint. Rocks of all different shapes and sizes work great. You will also need acrylic paint, paintbrushes, and optional Sharpie markers.

After completing your positive affirmation rocks you can take kids on a walk through a local park or neighborhood. Have kids put painted rocks around the path or beside trees to brighten someone’s day. People will love finding your little one’s artwork and seeing the positive affirmation craft on their walks.

Mindfulness Rocks Tips for Success

*When searching for rocks to paint most rocks will work. We preferred flat rocks of all different sizes and colors because these were the easiest for my little ones to paint on.

*We choose to use acrylic paints when painting our rocks. This way the paint should last long enough but can also wash off in the rain. We love using bright colors to make them pop outside more.

*Your little one can paint the rocks any way they desire. Mine loved painting different colors all over the rocks. Older children can also draw images that would go well on mindfulness rocks like clouds, butterflies, hearts, etc…

*Once finished with the painting parts let your rocks dry. You can then use a Sharpie to write the phrases on. This is usually easier for children than painting the words on (unless you’re a pro painter!).
