Leafy Fall Owl Craft For Kids
This fun fall owl craft for kids uses freshly fallen leaves found outdoors and construction paper to create a super adorable and unique owl craft. It makes a great fall or Autumn craft and helps kids learn about leaves as well as Fall animals.
For this project, you will need leaves (ones that have rounded sides work best), liquid glue, construction paper/cardstock, and a pen or black marker. Your leaves should be freshly fallen, as fresh leaves work and look best.

Fall Leaf Owl Craft Tips for Success
*This fun Fall leaf owl craft makes an awesome craft to do in the months of September and October when the leaves are just starting to fall off the trees. Go on a scavenger hunt leaf walk with your children, and have them pick out different kinds of leaves to make this craft.
*The best leaves for this craft are leaves with more rounded edges. This will make your owl’s body more rounded and will look more like wings as well. Tear drop shaped leaves work great for this. Some specific types of leaves that would work well include Elm, Poplar, Birch, Dogwood, Cottonwood, Willow, White Ash, and more.
*If you cannot find the correct shape of leaves for the sides of your owl, you can always trim your leaves to make your owl’s body the shape you want. You may still need to do this with rounded leaves as well.
*Liquid glue works best for this project. Because leaves are bumpy and have a different texture, they don’t stick well with glue sticks, so you will need to use liquid glue. You can also use hot glue, but you will need an adult’s help with this.
*You can choose to use cardstock or construction paper. Cardstock will hold up better when gluing a large number of leaves to it/together. I would recommend cardstock for the background paper as well as for the owl’s face. Then use construction paper for the eyes. However, you can use any combination of both or just use construction paper if that is all you have.
*This project is the cutest when first completed. It may only last a few days until the leaves dry up. After that, they may start to crumble, and your project will not look as great. This makes it a great learning project, but not as great for hanging up around the home or classroom.
Fall Owl Craft for Kids
Materials:
- Freshly fallen leaves
- Liquid glue
- Construction Paper or Cardstock (white or brown)
- Scissors (optional)
- Black marker or pen
Directions:
- Collect leaves for your owl’s body and wings. You will need about 10-20 leaves, depending on the size and shape you choose. Aim to collect leaves with more rounded edges.
- Lay your leaves out in an oval shape on your paper. Leave space at the top to write a cute fall saying if desired. But fill up the rest of the paper with your oval.
- Trim the edges off of any of the leaves that don’t fit your oval shape correctly (if needed).
- Once you have laid your leaves in the desired shape, begin to glue them down using a glue bottle/liquid glue. Glue them down one at a time until they are all glued down.
- Glue one extra leaf on the left side and another on the right side for the owl’s wings.
- Cut out a smaller oval shape from brown cardstock or construction paper.
- Cut out two small white circles for the owl’s eyes and glue them to the middle of the brown paper.
- Add black dots in the middle of each owl eye.
- Find and glue a very small yellow or orange leaf right underneath the owl’s eyes to make the owl’s beak.
- Glue the brown construction paper owl face towards the top of the owl’s oval body.
- Write a fun saying at the top like “Whoooos Ready for Fall,” “Fly into Fall,” or “Have a Hoot this Fall.”
