Narwhal Craft Tips for Success

  • This craft is perfect for kids of all ages starting in preschool and up. Depending on the age of the children you are working with you may need to give them a little more direction or freedom.
    • For younger children, you should lead them through each step and do an example as you do. You may want to prep some of the construction paper pieces ahead of time so they can just be cut and glued out.
    • For older children, you can complete the project all the way through and then have them do as completed. You could also choose to show them the example and have them replicate it or make it their own if they are capable.
  • When making this craft you should start by painting your craft. You can choose to let it dry before adding the details. This will make the craft less messy to complete. However, if you are on a time crunch you can always paint it and add the details on right after. If you choose to do it this way some of the paper items may stick to the paint without needing to use a glue stick.
  • After finishing your painting you will need to cut some of the paper plate off of both of the sides to create the narwhal shape. Make sure to do this after painting as some of the pieces that you cut off will saved to become the narwhal’s flippers and should still be painted as well.
  • You will need to use both yellow and white construction paper. For the narwhal’s horn, you can draw what you think it will look like and cut it out. You can also choose to print out the free template from this unicorn craft and color and cut out the unicorn horn to be the narwhal’s horn.
  • This fun Narwhal craft also goes perfectly with the book series Narwhal and Jelly. The Narwhal matches up and can be used for pretend play or for an extension activity after reading any of the fun kid’s comic book series books.
