Costco Dramatic Play Center Set-up Tips

  • For this Costco center you will need a few things that you may have around the home already. You will need an apron, a small table of some sort, a tray, muffin liners or small to-go dressing containers, food (real or pretend), a kid safe knife (or plastic one), a cutting board, and food packages.
  • When setting up this fun dramatic play center you can choose to use real food and have it be for snack time. We used things like veggie straws and easy to cut fruit like apples (so kids can “cut” up and put out samples on their own). The kids could actually eat the sample and the sample person could restock them once they run out.
  • You can also choose to use play food from a play kitchen for the samples. This option works best if you are setting up the Costco sample station in a school or daycare setting. This way you do not have to worry about germs or allergies.
  • There are five pretend nametags included in the printable pack. You can also use the fill in the blank nametag and write in your own child’s name.
  • No need to purchase items to create a grocery store dramatic play like this one. We used an art tray instead of a food tray and old muffin liners that we found in the back of the cabinet for the food sample containers. Use what you already have on hand.

**These are not real Costco signs with UPCs, name tags, or allergy alert signs. Just made up ones for pretend play only.
