Fun Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt Set-Up
*You will need to set up this scavenger hunt ahead of time by putting the clues in the correct places. You can put the first clue in a Thanksgiving themed book you are going to read together, or just bring it out and give it to them. See the below list for where to put the rest of the clues:
- Under the sheets in the bed
- Laundry room: in a washer/dryer, taped to the top of the washer and dryer, in the laundry sink, etc…
- On the kitchen table
- Behind a couch
- Taped up next to the front door or taped to the front of the door/in between the door and a screen door
- On the inside door heading to the garage, on the garage step, or in the garage somewhere
- Anywhere you spend lots of time as a family together:
- This clue will probably be the hardest one to find as it is the most vague and can really be put anywhere. Some good spots would be in a rocking chair or snuggle chair, somewhere in a living room, in a parent’s bed if you snuggle together in the mornings, in the family minivan, etc…you may need to give additional hints to help find this one.
- Under a blanket anywhere in the house
- In the fridge
- This is where you will find the last clue hidden. Feel free to add a treat or prize in the fridge.
*When setting up this Thanksgiving scavenger hunt in our home we always like to end it with a little treat bag or prize bag. Little ones will be so excited to get treats for all their hard work. It is also great for learning about following directions, numerical order, and more.
Some ideas for a fun surprise at the end of the hunt include Thanksgiving treats, Thanksgiving themed books, Turkey coloring pages (this is great for a low-budget scavenger hunt – just print a few choices off), stickers, party favors, rings, and even a fun kid’s themed place setting option that will be perfect for the big upcoming family feast.
This Thanksgiving scavenger hunt would even make an awesome Thanksgiving activity to do on the big day altogether. You could set it up at a Grandparent’s house or whoever is hosting Thanksgiving and have all the kids work together to find the clues throughout the house. Then have it end with fun turkey cookies or little coloring book activity bags for kids to play together while waiting for Thanksgiving dinner.
For another fun, Thanksgiving themed activity to do with kids be sure to also check out these turkey paper bag puppets. You could have all of the items you will need to make them set up as the prize at the end of the scavenger hunt and then have kids make them together to extend the activity.
