Thanksgiving Turkey Craft for Kids Tips
*If making this craft with younger children you can cut out and prep the paper strips ahead of time. Older children will be able to cut out the paper strips for the craft on their own.
*When prepping the paper strips you will need a large amount of brown paper strips, and only three or four paper strips in orange, red, and yellow. You can also cut out other colors of paper strips for the feathers if desired.
*When determining the length of the paper strips you need to decide how large you want your turkeys to be. The longer you leave your paper strips the larger your turkey craft will be.
*You can choose to cut out white and black circles for the turkey’s eyes or use googly eyes. Both will look great.
*When making this craft with younger children you can direct them where to put the paper strips or you can allow them to use their creativity and glue them down where they desire. Depending on how much direction you give to the children on where to glue their strips their turkeys may look more spread out or more abstract.
Paper Strip Turkey Craft
Materials:
- White piece of paper
- Construction paper strips from brown, yellow, orange, and red paper
- Googly eyes
- Scissors
- Glue stick
Directions:
- Cut out a large pile of brown construction paper strips about 1″ wide by 8″ long (or longer/shorter depending on how big you want your turkey to be).
- Cut out 3-4 paper strips about 1″ wide by 5″ long from yellow, red, and orange construction paper for the turkey feathers.
- Start on the middle of the left side of a white piece of paper and glue down one red paper strip horizontally. Overlap the bottoms and glue an orange piece of paper slightly above the red one. Continue this process by gluing down paper strip feathers in a pattern until you’ve fanned out the feathers towards the right side of the paper.
- Glue your brown paper strips in a circular shape on top of the glued down feathers. Leave a few inches at the top so you are able to see the feathers under the turkey’s body as you’re glueing. Overlap each brown paper strip and glue on top of the next one, slightly rotating it as you go to create your circle shape for the body.
- Cut out two small orange squares and glue them to the bottom of the turkey for the feet.
- Cut out an orange triangle and glue it to the middle of the brown body for the beak.
- Glue on two googly eyes (or white and black construction paper circles for the eyes) above the orange beak to complete your project.
