This Christmas scavenger hunt printable is a fun holiday activity to do on the days leading up to Christmas. It is fun for kids of all ages and the clues can be found and hidden in places that are available in most homes.

Each clue has another clue written on it that will lead children to find the next clue. Some clues are easier to find and figure out and will tell children directly where to go. Other clues are a little more mysterious or open-ended and children may have to look in multiple places to find them.

The Christmas clues include fun rhyming phrases and riddles that tell where you can find the next clues as well as cute holiday pictures. Complete the hunt for a fun activity or at the end of the hunt you can put a little treat bag, candy, or Christmas surprise.

Christmas Scavenger Hunt Set-Up Tips

*This Christmas scavenger hunt will need to be set up ahead of time by putting the clues in the correct places and the prize at the end (if including one). You can put the first clue in a holiday-themed book that you are going to read together or just bring the clue out and give it to your children. See the list below for where to put the rest of the clues:

  1. Behind the Christmas tree if set up, a tree plant in the home, or a tree outside (weather dependent)
  2. In a toy box, on a toy shelf, or in a toy organizer
  3. In a chair where you all snuggle together – a rocking chair, kitchen chair, etc…
  4. Under a bed
  5. In a cabinet or in the fridge taped to a container of applesauce
  6. Under or taped to the back door
  7. In a closet where you keep coats
  8. Next to a light switch, Christmas lights hung up in a bedroom, or anywhere you might turn on a light
  9. Taped underneath a kitchen or bathroom shelf
    • Tape this one under the shelf and put a bag of treats, a Christmas activity, or materials for a fun Holiday craft on top of the shelf.

*When setting up this Christmas scavenger hunt in our home we always like to add in a fun treat bag or prize at the end. Children will be so excited to complete the hunt and find a prize waiting at the end for their hard work. This activity is also great for working on following directions, number order, and more.

Some ideas for a fun surprise at the end of the Holiday hunt include Christmas baked goods or treats, Christmas board books or kid’s books, Holiday coloring pages (perfect for a low-budget hunt), Christmas stickers, fun party favors, rings/jewelry, a Christmas outfit Gingerbread house kit, or even materials for a cute Holiday craft to complete together.

This Christmas scavenger hunt would make the perfect activity for a countdown to Christmas event. It would also be great on a cold snowy day or at a Holiday party where kids are attending. It would even be great on the big day, completed together as an extended family (all the cousins and other kids in the group working together).

Christmas Scavenger Hunt Clues

Materials

  • Holiday treats/prizes, Christmas crafts, coloring pages, etc…

Directions

  1. Print and cut out the Christmas scavenger hunt clues in the size desired.
  2. Place the clues in the corresponding spots around the home (see list above with directions on where to put each clue). Make sure to put the starting clue in a book to read or a desired spot around the home.
  3. Add in the Christmas themed prize or coloring pages with the last clue sheet on a shelf somewhere.
  4. Lead the children through the scavenger hunt (or have them complete in on their own or in a group if they are old enough). Help them figure out where to find the next clues if they need help. Only give them additional assistance if necessary. Help them find the prize and have a fun time searching!
